CHAPTER 13

Just as the icy blade is about to slice the former frozen fairy in half, all the combined energy of the surrounding aurora borealis suddenly form into bright ribbon-like rainbows and absorb themselves into the Crystal Katana.  With that, the new Prism Blade slices right on through the pollen-covered ice cube like a hot knife through butter.
With that, the monster that was once Layla disappears into an explosion of prism light as it disintegrates into nothingness.  Eirwyn is surprised by this unexpected finish and drops her powered-up blade as she surveys her surroundings.
The thick grey clouds above are the next to disappear in the presence of the prism explosion, finally clearing away to reveal the clear, sunny sky for the first time since Eirwyn’s fairy transformation.  The winter fairy herself smiles in relief as she allows herself to bask in the warm, soothing sunlight for the next five or so minutes – hey, a bit of sunlight is good for your health, y’know.
*****
Afterwards, a peaceful Eirwyn is flying back to Flora Fairy Fava like a graceful dove delivering the subtle news of peace.  She looks down at the streets below and is surprised to see the snow covering everything already melted half-way.  She then looks up at the beautiful blue sky and smiles as if this is a sign from the heavens that her work is done for now.
Eventually, the wintery gardener comes across the customers she served recently sitting at a nearby rooftop sipping on mochas/coffee drinks while causally chatting with each other.  She smirks amusedly and flies over to them, much to their yelping surprise.
“Oh, Eirwyn!  How are you doing right now?” the time lady asks pleasantly after recovering.
Eirwyn herself gives a peace sign as her answer and then replies, “You DID help me after all, didn’t you?”
“What do you mean?” the summer lady asks in confusion as she and her friends look at each other.
“The Northern Lights absorb themselves into my Crystal Katana to smite the conjuror of the Shadow Orbs, striking her deader than dead,” Eirwyn replies to the point.  “Did any of you do it in secret?”
“No . . . like I said, we couldn’t interfere since interfering with things as they are meant to be could result in serious consequences . . .” the time lady replies in a mixture of confusion and intrigue as she ponders for a explanation.  She then gasps in realization, “UNLESS a time traveler aided you at that exact moment . . . and considering it was rainbows and light . . .” before grinning amusedly.
“A stowaway from the future?” the pink-haired lady asks in surprise.  “You traveled forward in time again, didn’t you?”
“Yes, for someone needs to check on our species’ ever-changing future.  Considering how bleak and desolate the new fairy kingdom was when I checked it . . .” the mysterious time-traveler points out before bringing her head down sadly.  “. . . I wouldn’t be surprised if anyone from that doomed timeline wanted to travel back with me, well, behind my back.”
“Hmm . . .well, let’s not dwell on that.  We’ll let you and the others know if we find out anything on this subject.  For now, just enjoy your moment of triumph and peace.  You MORE than deserve it, darlin’,” the summer lady assures as she gives Eirwyn a comforting hug.
The winter fairy nods with a smile and then gets out another white rose lei from out of nowhere to put around her summer crush’s neck, much to the latter’s blushing surprise.
Before the summer lady can say anything, Eirwyn flies off from the scene giggling playfully – before turning back and blowing a kiss at her.

By the time our wintery heroine finally returns to Flora Fairy Fava, she looks down and gasps in amazement before stopping at a screeching halt.  Below is a huge crowd lining up before the coffee shop’s entrance door  that stretches all the way to the horizon.  No doubt this is Towson’s entire population . . . or of Maryland, for that matter, the wintery barista thinks to herself before disappearing in another snowflake burst.
*****
Once Eirwyn reappears within the coffee shop itself, she finds it busting with activity with twice as much people as last time.  Regarding Selena and Camille, they’re zipping around at the coffee counter anime-style trying to get the seemingly infinite coffee orders done ASAP and with great effiency.  Annoyed by this, the wintery barista whistles out loud for obvious reasons.
Just like that, the frantic coffee-loving crowd freezes in a metaphorical snap.  Everyone looks over at Eirwyn while still in cartoonish freeze-frame mode as she walks over to the counter and pushes her barista brethren away like statues.  “You can rest now, I’ll take it from here,” the wintery barista assures with a smile.
With that, Selena and Camille collapse to the floor anime-style and rolls away from the scene just like actual, toppled statues on circular pedestals.  Eirwyn sweatdrops nervously at this as she backs away to the counter and takes over the shift – and with that – the customer crowd unfreezes itself and forms a clean, organized line before the new barista since they want more of her Jolty Java without delay.
*****
Eight hours later, all three fairy baristas are relaxing at the couches after working to the bone.  “Whooooo!  I don’t know what made those caffeine heads come here in full throttle, but it felt good to do business again like old times,” Selena says between breaths.
“Maybe it’s because I vanquished the conjuror of the Shadow Orbs . . .” Eirwyn replies with a smile.
“HUH?!” both Selena and Camille exclaim in shock as they look at each other.  With that, they run outside to see that the snow is all gone now.  The night sky is also clear with several shining stars and a full moon up and about.
“Wow, what just happened?!” Camille asks in amazement.
“Like I said . . . though I had a bit of help from someone from the future.  I know what you’re going to say, but the others are looking into it.  Otherwise, we’re at peace for now,” Eirwyn explains to the point.
“Oh wow!  Selena exclaims as she quickly picks up her snowy sister-in-law and embraces her in a bear hug.  “I’m so proud of you, Suzy!”
“Indeed, now Towson can enjoy peace for the time being,” Camille adds in as she joins in the embrace.  “We owe everything to you, Eirwyn.”
“I did it to protect you all . . . and for our future,” the wintery barista says sheepishly as she returns the hug.
Just then, Nye and Iris show up at the scene just in time to see the fairy baristas’ embrace.  The magician fairy looks over to her knightly father with a smile and asks, “She did it, didn’t she?”
“Yeah, and came back in one piece, thank goodness,” Nye replies with a relieved smile as he and Iris walk over to join in the embrace, as well.  “I knew you could do it, Snowy.  That, and we prayed for you too.”
“And some TIME-ly intervention, from what Suzy told us,” Selena adds in with a chuckle.
Nye and Iris look at each other with confused expressions upon hearing this, but then shrug their shoulders in a “Oh, Well” fashion.
*****
Later in her bedroom, Eirwyn is sitting on the windowsill as she contemplates on the recent events that has led her to where she is now.  She then conjures up a batch of snowflakes that proceed to fly about in the room while glowing in her favorite winter colors.  The winter fairy watches this peaceful and mesmerizing sight with an equally peaceful smile when her knightly brother walks in and notices the snowy spectacle happening before him.
“Heh, how cute.  You’ll be doing this a lot from now on, I bet,”  Nye says amusedly as he walks over and sits down next to his snowy sister.  “So . . . it WAS Layla who was behind all of this, right?”
Eirwyn nods in agreement and then adds, “And what I feared regarding her intentions is true . . . luckily I was able to stop her before they were realized . . .” before bringing her head down sadly.  “I understand her rage regarding the incident with me and her fiancé long ago, but near-genocide of the Heart Fairies is NEVER justified.”
“I agree with you there,” a sympathetic Nye says as he puts an comforting arm around Eirwyn’s shoulder.  “But as least now, Selena and the others have hope for a future – and we’ll help them every step of the way, right?” he adds in an assuring, optimistic tone.
Our winter heroine nods in agreement and then whips out a piece of paper that has a phone number on it.  Nye notices this and smiles amusedly.  “You finally got that Southern Belle’s number, eh?” he asks with a chuckle.
“Yes, you can say that,” Eirwyn replies as she blushes nervously.  “And I won’t be afraid to ask her out once everything has settled down.
“Atta gal.  If you’ve got your wintery powers down easily, then your probability of a swell relationship will be just as good,” the knightly elf assures as he gives his fairy sister a loving hug.
Eirwyn nods affirmatively and then looks over to the full moon through the nearby window.  Since today is a Monday – or Moonday, in this case – no doubt good luck has been on the winter fairy’s side – as well as that of the remaining Heart Fairies.  Then again, the future is always constant and changing – but hey, it’s looking good so far, no?
